#1: Looking to the East...

(visited by Michael Waupotitsch)

12-Nov-2013 -- I was on a business trip in Fóshān, China, and knew my location was near a CP as I had followed the project and its website recently. Luckily I had a car and driver and a helpful colleague with me as we were on our way to a manufacturing site in the industrial district of Gāomíng in the city of Fóshān (near Guǎngzhōu).

It was pretty easy to take a short detour and approach 23N 113E on our way. From previous reports I knew exactly where to go, but expected a pond or at least wasteland that was not easy to enter. Typically for China this has changed in the last few years since the last reported visit - the CP is now within a commercial/industrial zone, between warehouses and storage facilities.

We drove on a rather big road westwards and parked the car, my colleague and I went down southwards a side road when we saw that the CP was located in a "restricted" area, at least a property that had entrance gates for truck deliveries including cameras and road bars.

We did not care much and simply walked in, as nobody took notice of us. We walked eastwards, nearly a full block back to the next side road when the CP was luckily found in the middle of this "private" road and not within a building or storage hall. The accuracy of the GPS was OK (< approx. 10 to 12 meters), however I could not meet "full zeroes" as the signal was jumping a little bit. The CP was still definitely met exactly as it was a free area where we could walk around (just had to give way bypassing trucks) and made several pictures.

Pictures taken in all directions as well as from the GPS and back we went to the car. Rather unspectacular and spontaneous visit, although I was still excited, as it was my first CP. Thanks to my colleague for the great support!
