(visited by Rodney Chow, Hamish Goldie-Scot and Byamba Byambasukh)

24-Jul-2013 -- 44°N 111°E was visited after completing a field assessment of the Saynshand – Zamyn-Üüd road project currently under construction, which starts approximately 88 km south of Saynshand, the capital of the DornogovÄ Privince in Mongolia, and ends approximately 120 km later in Zamyn-Üüd, near the Chinese border. In the next couple of years, this road is expected to be completed, and will complement another road project between Choyr and Saynshand, essentially linking Ulaanbaatar and China with a paved road for the first time.

The confluence point is located west of the alignment of the Saynshand – Zamyn-Üüd road project currently under construction. The approach to the confluence point was done from the southeast through the open steppe using a GPS, but it can easily be reached via an established track from the northeast. A small rock pile and stake was placed at the confluence point. Two ger (yurt) nearby provided the closest resettlement, which complemented beautifully the Gobi Desert steppe.
