#1: confluence just below the photo's center

(visited by Stefan)

26-Aug-2012 -- This would have been the fifth visit of the day, just 60km north of Yellowknife.

But as I feared there was no way to land. The ground around Yellowknife is covered by thick boreal forest and finding a landing spot is usually a difficult undertaking. I'd have to hike half an hour to the confluence from the next suitable landing spot and didn't have the time to do that. The pictures I could take down there in the trees wouldn't yield any information and can be taken anywhere around Yellowknife ;-) Maybe someone skidoos there in the winter one day. As for now here's some aerials of this confluence.

The confluence is just in a swampy area between two sandy eskers west of a long lake. The eskers are tree covered and the swamp has lots of little trees, too. In the picture the flat, swampy area can be clearly seen just below the photo's center. It appears greener between the rather dead trees. The green grass and little trees are a sign that walking through this area will have your feet sink above the ankles maybe up to the knees.
