10-Jun-2012 – Within the period 10–11 June 2012 I have made a motor race on a route Novosibirsk (Russia) – Pavlodar (Kazakhstan) – Maraldy lake (Kazakhstan) – Novosibirsk. On my way I have visited the following confluences: 53°N 77°E, 53°N 78°E, 52°N 78°E, and attempted to reach 52°N 77°E.

I was driving by Chevrolet Niva car, and have overcome 1754 km distance within 30 hours (including 4 hours sleep). I made this trip alone as Alexander Lobanov couldn’t join me due to personal plans and in the reason that I lingered with my proposal. Actually I didn’t plan to go too, the idea came up spontaneously. Evgeniy Bayev was occupied with some urgent matters, thus there were no other enthusiasts who desired to take part in such kind of activity.

Having successfully reached the confluence 52°N 78°E and made dipping into salty waters of Maraldy lake, I set off towards 52°N 77°E. On my way there I had to pass Pavlodar and Aksu towns. As soon as Belovka village left behind, I drove up to locked gates. According with Google Earth images, I expected to see a bridge there. Unfortunately it turned out to be a police guarded object, there is pumping station there. The policeman didn't even allow me to cross the river through it.

The confluence point is located on the island between Irtysh river and its tributary. Since I haven't taken a boat with me and didn't want to leave the transport unattended, I had to consider myself as satisfied with the “attempt”. As soon as photo shoot was finished I immediately set off on back way. Before getting to the border I was caught by heavy rain. But neither frequent lightning nor strong thunder could stop me. Thus without any trouble I crossed the state border. After Karasuk town I entered small forest and stayed overnight there. Picturesque sunrise caught me on the way. As I got back home, I checked Google maps again and was disappointed once more. It emerged that in 10 km upstream Irtysh there is a crossing to the island through a bridge.

I made the following conclusion: one should be treated more seriously and prepare for confluence visits more comprehensive. Good luck!
