25-Feb-2012 -- Back from Paris, I pass very close to the confluence 49N-4E. It is late, the night will come soon, and the weather is bad, grey sky and cold fog. But nevertheless, I go there: it will be a change with the Parisian traffic…

The confluence is on a hill covered with the famous vineyards of Champagne. The soil is quite wet and all the ways around are slippery with a clear calcareous argillaceous and sticking mud. The GPS guides me towards the top of the hill covered by trees.

The slopes become very steep, so I park the car and I walk the last 300 meters between the vines which were cut recently.

The point is in the forest. It is poorly maintained, there are fallen trees everywhere and there is no visibility. After a few moments, I get all the zeros on my GPS.

The sun lay down, the night starts to fall and I go back to the car. The landscape must be very pretty in spring or in summer, on a sunny day.

Before to leave, I notice that somebody threw oyster shells at the edge of the vines. A French habit to give better taste to Champagne?
