#1: View of the confluence

(visited by Rodrigo Sandoval and José Ramón Loría)

English

28-May-2011 -- The place is on a hill, there are several dry tributaries that flow into the "Barras" river and in the horizon are viewed some higher mountains. The terrain is arid and rocky with poor vegetation, mostly bushes of straw.

We started to plan the visit to this confluence for several months, various circumstances delayed our departure, and we were finally able to schedule the visit for 28 May.

This day we expected being at the point in the afternoon, however, on repeated occasions we lost the way because as we were getting closer to the confluence, all trails seemed to end.

After trying several alternatives, we found the precise path. For this moment we had already lost several hours. We reached a place, less than 2 km of our destination, from which we could only walk along a terrain that was flat, arid, with some straw and brushwood. In the distance we saw the hills behind the river "Barras" that we had to cross, we knew that the confluence was on the hills.

We arrived at the foot of the hill and continued in the bed of a dry creek, the sun was getting closer to the horizon and we decided not to waste time and climb the hills quickly.

It was a hasty decision because once we were up, we saw in front of us a canyon that we couldn’t cross. We tried several alternatives and we had no more options but to return to the bed of the creek and to continue up to about 150 meters from the confluence. We climbed another hill and we hit, within minutes we were on the point.

By then, the sun was above the horizon and we had little light to take some photographs. We had to return with the help of GPS and flashlights.
