11-Dec-2009 -- 2nd confluence out of a trip of 2

Continued from 52°N 20°E

According to the conference agenda today’s sessions were scheduled to start at 10 AM while sunrise was at 07:33. That gave me almost enough time to pay a quick visit at the nearest confluence point (ca. 50 km away as the crow flies). I departed from Bronisławów at 8:30 and drove south along the road 742 to Przedbórz. There I incautiously ignored my GPS’s advice and instead of taking a direct road for Góry Mokre I continued on 742 up to Dobromierz. There I recognized my mistake, turned to the east, passed by a radio tower located almost exactly on the 51st parallel and via a very bumpy dirt road arrived in Góry Mokre and after a while in Kajetanów.

The day was quite cold, overcast and rather wet – typical weather for mid-December, but some sunshine rays broke through the clouds and lightened the landscape. The confluence point lay on a gentle slope, ca. 0.5 km away from the paved road. I wasn’t going to risk driving on soft ground so I parked the car at the parting of the ways. Along a dirt road I walked between fields to the west until I reached some shrubs on my left. There I turned to the south and after 200 m I came to a small grassy “ledge” indented into the field.

The confluence point lay on the field, a couple of meters away from the solid ground. The soil was very soft and my boots tended to bog down, but fortunately the GPS signal reception was perfect and I could quickly locate the “zero spot”. With 4 m accuracy I improved very much the result I had achieved during my first visit there in 2005 (due to growing crops I settled for 92 m then).

The surroundings were quiet and calm, with almost no traffic around. There were some hills in the vicinity, one of them being the highest point of Łódzkie province – Fajna Ryba (347 m a.s.l., in English the name would translate to something like Cool Fish). I took the usual pictures and walked back to the vehicle. An hour later I was diligently taking part in the conference.

Tam nieopatrznie zignorowałem wskazania nawigacji samochodowej i zamiast wybrać bezpośrednią drogę do Gór Mokrych dojechałem drogą 742 aż do Dobromierza.

Wykonałem zwyczajowe fotografie i pomaszerowałem z powrotem do samochodu. Niecałą godzinę później byłem już pilnym uczestnikiem konferencji.
