11-Oct-2009 --

Yo no hubiera podido.

11-Oct-2009-

Point meeting was Villa Union, province of La Rioja. Matthias traveled from Carlos Paz 548 km. Gonzalo, Eliana, Guadeloupe (2), Vera (5) and Diego San Rafael 790 km, Vilma and I 530 km from San Martín. With a strong "zonda" wind and 35 °C, at 15:00 PM already were on the way to the little hell that would be our base camp as-is had scheduled it viewing photos satellite.

Crossed the River with the cars beds was possible with the help of the Toyota and in less than one hour we were already setting the camp next to a closed house that is used in times of rain, by the people responsible for the maintenance of the aqueduct that feeds on drinking water to the people. WQe were at 7.5 km straight line from CP. To the East, El Nevado Famatina, Cerro General Belgrano (6250 massl).

Before darken, we made a short recognition of what would be our ascent in truck rather than we saw almost no difficulties, at least until the confluence of the Potrero Grande and Tullisquin rivers. The next day we discovered that we could only move 1,600 m, the rest would be walking. Vilma remained in the camp, Diego returned from the truck and I did tip assuming the rest of the group, expert’s mountaineers, they would reach me soon, but loaded with girls in the backpacks, took them more than what I meant.

By the bed of the River, the 5.4 km straight line became 7.2 km and I did it in 2 hours 15 minutes. Practically hung in the side of the mountain, I managed the so desired "zeros". Sitting on one small stone, I was waiting for the rest of the group, as in the 800 meters that it could see down, they do not appear.

Fearing that something had may then to give up, I thought to download and return without evidence, had no camera, when I feel that up mine, not more than 15 m, four guys in mules stopped to see me. I don't want to imagine what they would think to the see me so absurd there, so I just salute them and I said that it was taking photos. They made a few comments among them and continued their way.

Had not been for these people, I had not been given account that I was so near the cornice, and with a little more than effort came to the trail. There the difference that had I realized between Google showing the CP to the West of the trail and my GPS 5 meters East, in the ravine. I walked 1000 meters down and I managed to see the rest of the team. They did time saw me and they were looking for the less steep place to upload, I from above I could indicate them. See climb Eliana with Vera in the backpack, made me feel an elder. I could not do it.

We come to the S29 W68 and was Guadeloupe sleeping. We draw pictures, I left a note for my grandchildren behind of the "Dinosaur Head" stone (we given the name), since there was not possible to bury in CP. Celebration, souvenirs and we started our way back to the camp. Vilma and Diego were waiting us with a good roast that was the motivation that let's not beat by tiredness. Still in the down, I just I could load Vera for 500 meters, the rest it handled Matías and Eliana. Gonzalo and Guadalupe made his own team.
