#1: general picture of confluence

(visited by Kevin Bourke and Len Parkes)

17-Jul-2009 -- This confluence was visited by a group of 4 from the Tweed Valley 4WD. Club. The group consisted of Kevin Bourke, Len and Sherril Parkes and Chris Frost.

The group walked in to the confluence from Coongie Lakes located 25 kilometres to the South East from the Confluence. The walk involved firstly crossing the Northwest Arm of Coopers Creek. This was achieved by using kayaks and inflatable dinghies. The walk then involved crossing 12 sandhills and traversing a dry lake bed and then following 2 dry creek beds.

On the way there was evidence of Aboriginal occupation (cutting and grinding stones) There were some camel tracks and a group of wild Simpson Desert horses were seen walking to a waterhole. The immediate area around the confluence is on the perimeter of Lake Strangeways a dry lake which fills only with heavy local rain from Albert Creek.

The group took 2 days to visit the confluence and camped in the creekbed nearby. There were some old vehicle tracks nearby but no evidence of any previous visit to the confluence.

Coordinator's Note: Please note that this is in the Innamincka Regional Reserve. Visitors should follow local byelaws and not leave any items or markers behind.
