02-May-2009 – Opening Republic of Kalmykiya

After visiting the point 48°N46°E we preferred to get back to Volgograd city to enter the western branch of M-6 route leading towards the city of Elista. We were notified that the traffic control post located near the village of Malye Derbety was famous as practicing very detailed inspections. However, our car bearing number plates of neighbouring region attracted no attention of on-duty officers.

We took a left turn after the post and drove about twenty kilometers eastwards to the T-junction marked with road direction signs 'Iki Bukhus' and 'Khonch Nur'. We drove off to the left and covered less than four kilometers along the dirt track. The confluence point was located in the steppe about a hundred meters away from the dirt track. No difficulties were encountered during our way back to the city of Volgograd in the evening. The night was spent in a motel located in a city suburb at M-6 route. Early in the morning we headed towards the confluence 48°N44°E.
