#1: A view of the San Joaquin Valley and the California Aqueduct

(visited by Mathew Marulla and Maria Armoudian)

19-Jul-1999 -- This confluence is just off of Interstate 5, near the California Aqueduct (Photo #4). Our first attempt was to follow the aqueduct to get as close as we could and then walk. Until we hit this locked gate, still 4 miles away. It looked like the spot was on those hills ahead and to the left, so we tried to get on the road that crosses the aqueduct just on the other side of this gate.

We found the road, but it looks like a flash flood had found it first (Photo #5).

Eventually we found a way to get on the other side of the gorge, and the road took us within 100 feet of the confluence. (Photo #3) It was easy to get to, but it took about 2 hours to get the wheat kernels out of our shoes and socks.

Maria marks the spot. (Photo #2)
