02-Mar-2009 -- 4th confluence out of a trip of 7

Continued from 51°N 09°E

The day started out dark, wet and rainy. I set off from Cölbe near Marburg at 8:45 and headed west. Along the Lahn river, through a nice hilly area I was following a winding road towards Kreuztal. There was still quite a lot of snow in the forest. After half way I entered North Rhine - Westphalia federal state and the landscape suddenly changed. No more forests and hills, factories and sawmills instead. The traffic had much increased and only after 2 hours drive I came to Krombach – a little town famous for its brewery.

3 km further to the north I arrived in Littfeld and turned into a side road leading north-east towards the hill of Kindelsberg. A steep road brought me to a junction with a forest track where the distance to the CP was ca. 230 m. There I parked the car and continued my travel on foot. It was still raining, although not that intensively as in the morning.

There was some frozen snow in the forest and much water from up and down. Along the track I went ca. 200 m and entered a dense wood. GPS readings were very unstable and led me in different directions. I walked the tiny wood criss-cross until I finally settled for a position 5 m away from the actual point (with 7 m accuracy) – I couldn’t get any better result.

When I returned to the car I was completely wet. I changed my clothes, had second breakfast and drove 3 km up towards Kindelsberg. Unfortunately, on Monday the restaurant is closed so I only stopped for a moment at the car park, 10 minutes walk away from the hut. Anyway there wouldn’t be much fun of going to the top because of dense fog that started just above the altitude of the CP (Kindelsberg lies almost 250 m higher). Driving slowly down (according to the road sign the inclination of the road was 15%) I returned to Krombach and headed towards the motorway for Frankfurt am Main.

02 marca 2009 -- Dzień wstał pochmurny, wilgotny i deszczowy. W połowie drogi wjechałem do Nadrenii Północnej-Westfalii i krajobraz nagle uległ zmianie.

Stroma droga doprowadziła mnie do skrzyżowania z leśnym duktem, skąd odległość do przecięcia wynosiła ok. 230 m. Zaparkowałem samochód i ruszyłem dalej pieszo. Wciąż padało, choć mniej intensywnie niż rano.

W lesie było trochę zmrożonego śniegu i mnóstwo wody – i z góry, i z dołu. Duktem doszedłem do gęstego zagajnika.

Gdy wróciłem do samochodu byłem kompletnie przemoczony.
