15-Aug-2008 -- As already in summer 2006, I went also this year via La Ronge and Missinipe to my starting point at Reindeer Lake, which is Norvil Olson Campground close to Southend Reindeer. Unfortunately, I had to carry out my canoe tour without my friend Harald Wenzel, because he fell ill shortly before the trip.

The tour along the eastern part of the Reindeer Lake towards the confluence point took course under midsummer temperatures and on a relatively calm lake through the countless islands, in total there shall be more than 5000, without major problems. Provided you own a map and a GPS device. The point itself is located about 30 m from the lakeside in an open forest. A large table now indicates the confluence point. For sure my friend and I will return there one day, in order that his name on the table receives its appropriateness.

From there on, I went northwards and over a 1.2-km long portage to Kinoosao, a small village on the eastern side of Reindeer Lake with a road connection eastwards to Lynn Lake. Directly after Kinoosao in Saskatchewan is the border to Manitoba.

The word Kinoosao is Indian and means "fish". During this year's springtime, nearly 1 million kg of fish became processed at the local fishing station. Words about Reindeer Lake's abundance in fish have got around very far. Every year guests from all over the world come to the local fishing lodge Grand Slam Lodge, which is run by Floyd und Marianne. Me too, I relaxed there for 3 days and savoured their hospitality.

On the way back to the campground, the first autumn storms caught up with me and locked my boat for several days. After a total of 265 km on the lake, I finally returned to my starting point, where my outfitter brought me back to civilization at Missinipe.

On the shore, about 20 m from the lakeside of Reindeer Lake. The Saskatchewan/Manitoba demarcation line is passing exactly through the Confluence.
