(visited by Gordon Spence)

09-Jun-2008 -- The Quest for 58N-05W started yesterday at 53N-01W, continued at 54N-01W, then 55N-02W before overnighting in Edinburgh.

The quest continues, my course is over, so out to the car and head out North-West. Only slightly out of the way is this point, another one that I have only visited once before with Dani.

I rolled to a halt outside the cottage and out of courtesy stopped to chat with the owner. The field was full of livestock but as long as I didn't have a dog, or young children then I could go and wander.

A bit more chatting revealed the reason for the "watch out for the bull" warnings. Even though there is a right to roam in Scotland, if you exercise it, then hurt yourself the landlord is still liable! Crazy world!

Follow the track down, directly to the gate. Don't forget I've been here before! Through the gate and start climbing the hill. Weaving between the sheep and lambs. Yet again I got a WAAS lock, that makes four in a row now. Document and move off heading for Ullapool and overnight for the real target.

Halfway up the A9 and I come to a complete halt, traffic stationary as far as you can see. Four police cars and an air ambulance go past. Hmmmm. Do a u-turn, back track, cut across country, up the A82 and through Fort William. This detour adds 100 miles and 2 1/4 hours onto my journey.

I get checked in and have a chat with Evelyn (my landlady) about the project. Evelyn very kindly ran me down to the village to get a fish supper and I walked back for a mile and a half to loosen my legs up for tomorrow...
