Japanese

01-Nov-2007 -- In the fall of 2007 I (Dave) had the opportunity to travel to Japan to collaborate with Dr. Koki Iwao on some research. I stayed in Tsukuba, Japan's 'Science City'.

During the week Koki, his colleague Naotaka, and myself were able to visit 36N 140E, which is not far from Tsukuba. It was overcast, and raining lightly, and the ground was a bit soft, but we were able to walk the short distance from the road onto the rice paddy to get right to the confluence.

It was nice to be able to include a confluence visit on this trip to Japan. According to the captain of the flight home, between Narita airport and the airport in Vancouver, BC, Canada, the flight path crossed 54N 150W and 53N 140W, but those don't count as confluence visits!

(Koki) Dave named the way to find the confluence with handy GPS as “GPS dancing”, it really was! Fortunately, it did not take long time before the dance ends.
