(visited by Karl Bryk and Tailgate)

01-Nov-2007 -- A long weekend visit to a friend in Bern found me at Zurich airport wih the possibity of visiting my first Swiss CP. Though not on the direct route it was possible to do the trip to Bern from Zurich passing near N047 E008. After breakfast in Zurich (the days of a decent breakfast on a morning flight are long gone - even Swiss (Air) have succumbed to a meagre chocolate muffin and a cup of coffee; hardy enough to feed a mouse never mind a CP hunter who could be beating his way through thick undergrowth or fighting through metres of snow to the top of some mountain peak - as it was we had to do neither of these but you never know!

We drove via Luzern to Wolhusen, Doppelschwand and Romoos, guided by the car Sat-Nav before continuing the last few kilometres follow the GPS arrow.

We did the usual trick of passing the optimum point and having to turn around before settling on a spot to park the car about 160 metres from the CP, somewhere below us. After putting on some semi-walking boots and gathering equipment together we headed downwards. Through a barbed wire fence and a cow-dropping infested meadow we eventually came to a drop about 80 metres from the CP. The drop was steep and though technically possible with good walking boots and dry conditions we had neither. Below we could see another flat grassy area and decided to and find a way around to it. Conditions were wet and in some places muddy.

We headed off towards the West and found a rough trail that took us to the patch of green we'd seen before. Again we were stopped by a steep drop about 42 metres from the CP. The GPS signals here, as observed by other visitors, were poor. We took the usual photos in case we could not get any closer and this proved to be the case. We could not find a safe way down but could see a small waterfall above and close to the CP. In our efforts to get closer we passed a tree that had obviously grown around a barbed wire fence so the wire now passed through it.

We spent a few minutes exploring the area before heading off to the Emmentaler Schaukäserei in Affoltern to have a late lunch before travelling on to Bern. With a successful CP visit it was a great start to a great weekend.
