#1: Udo with his "baby" at the first camp, mini grill with 1.7 kg steak the whole lot

(visited by Helmut Resch, Udo Strack and Marian Dube)

08-Oct-2007 -- Continued from 13N 7E.

We drove via Moriki to Shinkafe to Isa, and onto the road to Sokoto from where we searched for the turn-off to Koji. It was merely a sand track and we followed this sand track and managed to get as close as 5.7 km to the Confluence. The track stopped and the bush got so thick that it was not possible to carry on further. We stopped at this point and made our camp and spent the night here. It turned out to be a very nice and serene place. We barbecued this evening a 1.7 kg steak on Udo's mini grill and finished our whisky supply for the whole week.

The next morning we turned back and took another sand track and got as close as 3.7 km to the Confluence but again met a thick bush. We continued along this sand track and tried to get around it through several tracks but had no option but to return each time when we met a dead end. The bush actually got too thick and made it impossible to carry on while the outside temperature was 40°C and as such uncomfortably hot. We returned to the main road and continued to Sokoto. The closest we got was 3.7 km.

It was market day in Sokoto and we had a difficult time to get through Sokoto and find the way to Dingyadi and to our next Confluence 13N 5E.
