12-Aug-2007 -- During our journey starting from Ankara and continuing via Muğla - Fethiye - Antalya - Alanya - Mersin, we are planning to visit the Confluences that are suitable for us to reach.

Our first destination is Köyceğiz. Being tired of the boiling hot and scorching sun, we decide to go up the Taurus Mountains. Despite the unsuitable road conditions, we manage to camp near the lake Gökçeova, altitude of 1800 meters. We are amazed by the spectacular view. Then we head towards Kabak village and spend a couple of days at Kabak Bay, which still is a wild beauty and is not deteriorated by tourism.

After visiting some small villages on our way, we keep on going till we get closer to the 37N 31E confluence point. This intersection is quite easy to reach, since it is a few kilometers from the main Antalya road. According to the GPS data we soon leave the main road and follow the direction of "Sillion". Silyon was one of the antique cities established in Southern Anatolia. Due to the later settlements around it, getting there is very easy. It's a matter of driving only 15 kilometers. We stop our car where the GPS shows the shortest walking distance; now the distance to exact spot is about 800 meters. We park near Yanköy and start walking. After a 20 minute walk among the fields and crops we reach the 37N 31E point. We take the necessary photos and record the GPS data. We are happy to find another confluence point.

Coordinator's Note: Unfortunately, this confluence visit had to be registered as "incomplete". In comparison to the photos of the five previous visits, it comes clear that the visitor did not localize the WGS84 confluence point. Instead the pictures are taken at a point about 120 m south of the WGS84 confluence point that itself is lying behind the glasshouse visible in this visit's pictures #1 and #6. On enquiry the visitor confirmed that he had his GPS receiver wrongly set to "European1950" map datum.

Here shall be pointed out once more that the Degree Confluence Project uses specifically the WGS84 map datum to define the confluence locations (see confluence definition), therefore every visitor should make sure in advance that his GPS receiver is set to the correct map datum.
