27-Aug-2007 -- The abstinence syndrome was devastating us, so as soon as we could make arrangements with our free days, we tried to return hunting confluences to avoid major damages.

Two confluences near the Interstate Road 22, suspiciously unvisited even if they seem accessible, would be our goals.

If you live in Buenos Aires province, really every day there are less and less confluences, every time more distant and complex to reach.

I departed from Buenos Aires Sunday morning to meet up with Pablo at Bahia Blanca city in the evening. From there we continued with his 4WD to the confluence area in order to be early in the morning very near of our first goal, the 39°S 66°W. We followed this plan and we slept in the car at Choele Choel, where we arrived near 3h00 am We woke up with the sunlight with very low temperature and we felt a little cold during the night as it usually hapens when you sleep in a car.

We refilled up or tank with gasoline and then we went to the confluence following the most direct track that we designed in Google Earth. We went up to the plateau through the access to the Mega Pump Station, where we attempted to find out about the closed gate, but they didn’t know anything because they never went to the confluence. To have possibilities to drive along the gas pipeline would be great but we could trouble the supervisor if we entered in other properties. We didn’t ask permission for it.

We started going to the west until we found a fence with a firebreak that led us to the north. We followed it up to parallel 39 where we were at 3.4 mi of our confluence but without chances to approach with the car. 1,640 feet before we had seen another firebreak to the west but we couldn’t use the car to progress due to the fence.

We considered using our second track but it implied to return to the route 22 and to do many miles from Chimpay without assurances of success. By chance the landowner where we were appeared and we explained our plans. He couldn’t guarantee us that for the other option the gates hadn’t padlocks and then we decided to walk, because in the best case we would spend the same time but with positive result. What great idea would have been to have a couple of mountain bikes for approaching!

The weather was nice so we left the 4WD with the landowner authorization and we did the long hike to the confluence, mainly for the firebreak, totalizing 7.5 miles round trip, due to the natural detours.

When we arrived near the confluence we saw a farmhouse with a vehicle, which indicated us that the other track would be possible. Really we were very tired and declined to go to find out. We took the pictures and we returned on the same path: now Rio Negro province has all its confluences visited or with attempt of visits.

Some cows and horses approached us with curiosity when we returned.

Already in the car we ate something and drank water before departing to our new target, the 39°S 67°W near Villa Regina city, again the north plateaus.
