(visited by Artsmaa Gankhuyag)

24-Jun-2006 -- On June 21, 2006, our team of 6 people had set out on a trip to western aimags of Mongolia such as Bayankhongor, Gobi-Altai, Khovd, Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs and Khuvsgul with an objective to perform some technical work according to our contract made with Mobicom, the first cellular telecommunications operator in Mongolia.

Besides performing our contractual duties, our plan included finding and establishing location of longitude and latitude points of intersection not yet certified. The first point on our plan was N46 E97. This point is located 28 km from Biger soum of Gobi-Altai aimag.

On the morning of June 24, 2006, we set out from Khurkhree bagh of Biger soum towards the N46 E97 point traveling through remains of the Nomuunkhaan Monastery which is near of Biger soum. The day was sunny, about 28 C degrees; our destination was rocky plain with plenty of ridges and bumps. The ridges were very steep with rocks drifting and collapsing down. We had to change our tires after having traveled just 5 km on such a terrain because they ruptured. (The tires were quite new with mileage of only about 700km).

Our travel team consisted of the Honored Artist of Mongolia Mr. Damchaa, Director of “Tergel-Tech” LLC Mr.Gankhuyag and Oyunbold, Erdenetuya, Enkhtur, Dashdorj.

When we arrived at the N46 E97 point, it was 15:15 afternoon.

Our team had found the point and secured a tablet at that location. We then took a commemorative picture, had lunch and continued on our trip.
