09-Apr-2006 -- After visiting 29°N 96°W we drove towards Freeport and the Gulf of Mexico. On the way to Galveston we passed the closest approach to this point, at a distance of 14.8 km, before we stopped and went for a stroll on the beach.

The weather was beautiful, and the water quite warm, particularly compared with the freezing temperatures and 10 cm expected snowfall which we had left behind in Norway the day before!
