  33°N 131°E (visit #2) (incomplete)

#1: SOUTH

(visited by Shigeru Shimizu)

09-May-2005 -- This point was located in north side of gradual foot of the rim of Mt. Aso's large caldera.

After 1,300Km driving from my home, I arrived at Kikuchi canyon located 5.1Km west from the target. The road named Kikuchi-Aso skyline guided me to closer area. Target was 300 meter away from the road.

First I attacked the triangular point, measured 33.00.11.1626N 131.00.04.0304E. I could find it easily from with 60 meter walk from roadside.

I used GPS and compass to attack the target directly. After 310 meter walk in the ceder forest, the GPS showed almost zero.

After returning the car, I visited another point. It was 33N 131E based on Tokyo Datum. A big monument was built there. Tokyo Datum was common in 20 century in Japan, and most of degree monument was there.

My wife was waiting in a car again.

Coordinator's Note: This visit is classified incomplete because it does not meet the photo requirements of the project.
