11-Sep-2005 –Continued from 58N 4W. To return from Aberdeen (Scotland) to Caracas (Venezuela) before my trip begun, I only could make reservation to fly Aberdeen-London-Paris, spend a night at Paris and continue the next day Paris-Caracas. The day that my return begins, London airport was closed all morning due to the typical London fog. So all the flight were cancel or delayed, but British Airways gave me a late afternoon flight with a 45 minutes connection at London (according to them that was good enough for a connection in the same terminal even the fact that 2 different airlines where involves in this situation). When my flight was close to London, we started to circle for 20 minutes… the London fog was still around in addition to multiples delayed flight that were arriving at the same time. So I just had 25 minutes to make my connection and as soon as I disembarked, I started to run from the gate 76 to the 1, to go later to gate 23 where my flight to Paris was embarking. I just did it, but when I arrived to Paris I realized that my luggage did not make the connection and still was in London. Given that they promised deliver my luggage next day at 13:30 and my flight to Caracas depart at 11:00, I decide to spend an additional day in Paris to pick my luggage up, other wise I jeopardize the recovery of it, despite any promise that airlines use to say and the ridiculous monetary compensation they do.

My luggage hopefully arrived and on time. After I dropped it on my hotel in Charles de Gaulle airport area, I started to analyze what the hell to do the rest of the day. I know very well Paris because I lived here for a year, so I decided to hunt N49 E3 that it is close to Paris and very convenient it way to approach there, because it is located just outside a town/community served by train. So I took the RER (line B) from Charles de Gaulle airport up to the Gare du Nord, change here to the metro line 5 toward Place D´Italie, and drop out at the next station (Gare de L´Est). Here I started to investigate train schedule to go Isles-Armentieres Congis, and found that the next departure is at 17:55 arriving there at 18:45. The critical factor this time was that the last train from here to Paris was at 20:30, so I would have only 1 ½ hours to go to CP and return to the train station on time. I verified on my GPS the distance to hike this time and it was very short and additionally, the sunset time suppose to be at 20:15. After this analysis I concluded that it is feasible to bag N49 E3 in this conditions, so I bought the train ticket, wait for my departure and arrived to Isles-Armentieres Congis as I planned.

As soon I arrived, I started walk to my objective that it is located just passing a bridge over La Marne river and inside a small forest beside this river. The satellite reception on my GPS was very poor due to the forest vegetation, and because I was somehow hurried in order to return as soon as possible to the train station, I did not spent to much time finding a GPS reading with all zeroes. According to my GPS reading, this CP has an elevation of 43.8 masl, but should not be so accurate due to the poor signal reception previously noticed. After have took all required pictures, I took others pictures of characteristic sites of the area. On my way back to the train station, I bought a “baguette”, bleu cheese and a bottle of red wine to celebrate this hunt at the station while I waiting for my train.

Waiting at the train station for almost a hour, I saw not less than 40 big airplanes approaching to Charles de Gaulle airport. I review on my GPS, the Garmin European City Select V4.00 map loaded on it and realized that this town it is practically aligned to Charles de Gaulle airport tracks and at just 29 km. Once in Paris, despite that I was very tired, I know Paris quite well and the rain, I decided to become a ordinary tourist and visited the Tour Eiffel and L´Arc de Triomphe just to remember very good times.

Later on my flight back to Caracas, I made a wrap up of everything I did this week and of course the 2 confluence (this one and N58 W4) that I hunt in the Old Continent. Additionally I review in my mind all the confluence that I have pending to visit in Venezuela, and I hope to visit in the near future.

This is my first confluence on the eastern hemisphere.
