(visited by David Mower and Aimee Mower)

21-Jun-2005 -- 42N 96W. My daughter Aimee and I visited this confluence on 21 Jun 2005 at about 1320 hours local time. We were with other family members on a vacation trip. Our travel plans for this day were from central Iowa to northern Nebraska. Aimee had been the navigator earlier in the day, but she was the driver on our approach. We left the interstate and enjoyed driving on the gravel-surfaced county roads. You all can probably imagine the conversation. “Let’s see, I think you need to get a little bit farther north. Try this road here. OK, now you need to be a little farter east. “ And so on.

We were able to locate an intersection where the confluence was about 1 kilometer away. There were others in the car, but they opted to stay there rather than walk on a rather warm afternoon. Aimee and I walked easily along a field access road. We walked out into a corn field about 200 meters. The plants were about 12 inches high. (Sorry to mix metric with statute measurements. I’m trying to learn metric; the sub-meter measurements are still a mystery.) It was easy to avoid the plants by stepping either between or over them. There were no fences, no buildings and no people.

We located the spot and took photos. The landscape photos all look the same. Nothing much has changed since this point was first visited in August of 2000. It was a pleasant break from a long drive, and it’s always magical to see all those zeroes! Thanks for getting us out!
