#1: General view - CP 50 meters away in the wheat field

(visited by Yip-Bannicq Group, Button Zhao, Fu Yihua, Lu Chuxia and Ray Yip)

22-Mar-2005 -- 37 N – 119 E Shandong, China

Visit Date: March 22, 2005

After an easy 37N 118E by mid-afternoon, we found we have ample time to go for this CP by taking a round about way to our destination - Dong Ying city.

Most of the drive were on the East-West expressway of Shandong, and once we get off the express way, we traveled 26 km on a 4 lane highway going north to a large township called Houzhen. From there we were 2 km from the CP.

Again, like the previous hunt of the afternoon, this is a rather easy CP to locate. The area is still part of the vast flat land of central Shandong, and we were able to drive on an unpaved road for the last km and parked the car about 170 meters from CP.

This CP is located in a wheat field with short winter wheat. Nearby there were few farmers busy setting up the irrigation pipe to water their fields.

We completed the visit at 5.30 pm. This second line hunting of the afternoon took us 50 km out of the way from our original route to Dong Yin. The main highway 2 km north of the CP turn out to be another main road leading to Dong Ying city , which was 66 km away. We made to Dong Ying city right before 6.30 pm just as darkness set in.

Even though both points we visited were not very challenging to find with typical rural flat land scenery of northern China. It was good to stretch our afternoon drive into a double line-hunting trip.

Rating of this hunt:

Degree of Challenge: 1 – easy drive to the point (Scale: 1= very easy - drive to the point; to 5= a death march – glad it is over)

Scenery: 1– Late winter scene of northern China farmland landscape (Scale: 1= not interesting at all; 5= take your breath away)

Culture-social factors: 2– typical farming community of northern China (Scale: 1=dull; 5= most stimulating)
