13-Mar-2005 –

Once finished the visit and celebration of N8W71, we came back to Barinas city and had lunch in a typical restaurant. I had Capybara stew and the rest of the group had beef cooked on fire held with a wood stick. After lunch we once again filled up our fuel tanks and at 2:00 pm we were ready for our next target N8W70.

We passed San Silvestre town and had the opportunity to appreciate the great amount of oil-well pumps as well as oil facilities associated to the oil activated carried out in the zone for more than 50 years. We also saw great extension of land dedicated to cattle, activity that is carried out in harmony and together with the oil exploitation.

Later we arrived to San Rafael de Canagua town. The road from San Silvestre to San Rafael de Canagua is in pretty bad condition, it is paved but full of holes like craters and it is important to drive slow for safety reason. Once we passed this town the roads are full dirt road, not a partially paved one, and we could drive a litter bit faster without any problem. Being on the road we approached to CP at a distance of just 150 mts. In that point we got inside the farm Santa Teresa and asked permission to enter into their land and approach directly our target. We used our vehicle to reach the CP N8W70 and practically did the “Confluence Dance” driving inside the Land Cruisers, arriving at the point at 4:08 pm.
The CP it is located at 108 masl, in a grazing land, where not too far we saw a large amount of cattle in their feeding process. Once our mission has finished and all the required pictures taken, we returned to the farm house, thanked and said good bye to the owners.

In this moment we started the return to Caracas, arriving home at 12:30 am, after 23 hours of continuous activity and driving more that 1,350 km. During our way back home, we were talking, with the help of CB radios installed in our vehicles, about the grateful experience of this hunting and we were making plans for the next confluence hunting day that we hope to have in a near future.

13-Mar-2005 –
