#1: Panoramic view to confluence – North

(visited by Hans Augdoppler)

13-Feb-2005 -- As said previously I made another attempt during the dry season with success. After surveying the area one week before I found three promising points where an access could be successful.

First: To use a boat from the eastern side of the Chandil dam.
Second: To find a road from the N33.
Third: To trek from the road to the dam through the jungle like forest.

I chose the trekking variant due to absence of a boat and a car able to manage Indian countryside roads. The driver warned me of elephants which may be found in these forests. Anyway I did not take this as very serious. Finally the elephants I have found looked like ordinary cattle.

My expectations came true I found a suitable footpath leading in direction CP. With this density of population even the jungle like forest is crossed regularly. A 5 km walk across a hill and trough rice paddies brought me to the CP without difficulties, apart from the burning sun (late winter).

Between dry rice paddies and grazing cattle the CP was found easily, even without a real dance. A farmer with his family passed by and they were astonished when I showed them the taken photographs.

For any further visits I suggest to choose the waterway. Rent a boat from the Chandil dam leisure spot and you may approach as close as ~ 500 m without crawling across a hill and through a forest. Another alternative shall be a motorbike using the so called road. Since the available maps are very poor you should have some time or speak Hindi.
