#1: View NNE to the CP, which is 60 m in altitude below the top

(visited by Peter Scharfenberg)

13-Jul-2011 -- Here we report a summer visit of this confluence point (CP), while the photos of the first visitor show the area in the winter time, covered with snow. For geographical details we refer to the maps "BD 10 Sarek Nationalpark" (1:100 000) and "Kvikkjokk-Årrenjarka" (1:75 000). Here one finds the CP in the nature reservation "Kvikkjokk-Kabla", which deserves additional interest. Moreover, the tour can easily be combined with a visit of the highest top in the Kabla-region, the Stuortjåkko (1191 m), as the CP is 400-500 m south of and only 60 m (altitude) below the top.

It is nice to start a visit in the settlement Årrenjarka, 13 km south of the CP. This means: nearly 20 km to hike (one direction), as well as back. The first 6 km can be done along a prepared track, for the rest one may find a way in dense wood and over wet grounds. (Here scooter tracks are marked, but these routes are useful only in the winter, when the ground is sufficiently frozen.) Only the last 3 km can be hiked in open mountain area (so-called "Fjäll"). Thus our first attempt ended 9 km south from the CP on the mountain top Kassavare (927 m). Here we got a first glimpse of the CP and the south side of the Stuortjåkko (photo #1, view NNE).

A more convenient entry into the mountain region of the CP (only 1 km to hike in trackless wood) was to start in Kvikkjokk and to follow the "Kungsleden" for 10 km into NE-direction until the track meets the lake Stuor Tata. Now one has only 7 km into EES-direction until the CP is reached. In fact, we had 3-4 hours to hike. The last 1000 m were not easy, due to the rocks seen in the pictures #2 (view N) and #4 (view E). Instead, one may arrive at the CP from the south, where rockless areas can be found (see picture #3). We returned on this way to our tent near the lake Stuor Tata, unfortunately with rain and in cold wind.

View S: The Kassavare-top is on the right behind the lake Kuosjaure, where photo #1 was made. View W: The Tarrekaise-mountains are behind the lake Tuottarjaure with its characteristic island.
