(visited by Peter Scharfenberg)

11-Jul-2009 -- A distance of 20-25 km separates this CP from the nearest settlements, Atangmik (on a peninsula) and Napasoq (on an island), both destinations of the Arctic Umiaq Line. Their ship sails weekly or biweekly between Manitsoq/Sukkertoppen and Nuuk/Godthåb. Provided that the potential CP seeker could sail by kayak or charter boat from Napasoq to the bay Aqaluk, or Patoq, respectively, then he has only 5-6 km to hike from the landing site to the CP – ascent from sea level less than 100 m altitude. Hiking from Atangmik avoids sailing but may require 2-5 days, as it is an expedition in unknown arctic territory rather than walking an established trail. (Last year Greenland´s newspaper reported of two polar bears, shot in Atangmik between the houses.)

While just being over CP 65°N/51°W during a regular flight from Kangerlussuaq/Søndre Strømfjord to Nuuk/Godthåb, we shot Photo 1 (view SW) and 2 (view W) to the CP 65°N/52°W. This place, as well as Atangmik, is indicated by circles in the pictures 3 and 4, respectively. Most of the lakes and other geographical characteristics could be identified by the Saga Map No. 7 "Manitsoq/Sukkertoppen" (1:250 000).
