(visited by Blain Anderson)

30-Aug-2001 -- This confluence is on the eastern flank of Mt. Drum, an active volcano in Wrangel-St. Elias National Park in Alaska, USA. The photographs were taken from an airplane at approximately 1000 feet above the ground.

This flight was part of a mapping and photography project to identify and map the unique ecosystems in Wrangel-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. (Yes, I got paid to do this.)

For more information on the ecosystems of Alaska's National Parks, go to: http://www.nature.nps.gov/im/units/AKRO/products/Products.htm and see the Ecological Subsections reports.

There are active geothermally heated mudpots in the vicinity, though we didn't see them on this flight.
