10-Mar-2013 — This confluence was the first spot in our country that was visited by Russian national. The pioneer of Russian CPs Captain Peter evidences this fact. The few visits submitted at that time were made by the Captain himself. And then finally he decided to go hunting with companion. Thus kind of accidentally the Russians start participating in the Project.

From today’s point of view we can see that this statement is not entirely true. By as much as six months earlier at the other end of the country the Russian-Canadian team had taken N49 E133. But as the report of the visit came very late - more than a year - Captain had reason to claim the priority of Victor.

In general this point hidden in the swamps of the Leningrad region is quite remarkable. Not to mention the fact that it is almost at hand and I haven't been there. Well winter is the best season to explore the swamps!

Previous visitors came to the confluencefromf gardening Mshinskoe. I decided to approach from the other side. The road M20 aka E95 passes there. The wide clearing for power lines crosses road close to spot’s neighborhoods. I parked right there. Two and a half kilometers left to confluence.

Track gauge of trucks walk along the clearing. Go skiing was impossible so I took skis under my arm and walked on foot. Coniferous forest raised on the sides. On the left it gradually thinned and after 500 meters finally swamp opened. It did not look quite lifeless - here and there the low sick pines stuck out. At last it was possible to ski. Power lines remained behind.

The weather was wonderful. Sun, clear skies, fresh -10°C frost! It was quiet and deserted. Only animal tracks crossed my way occasionally. There were fox tracks and judging by enormous size wolf ones. The tracks were slightly sprinkled with snow so I did not fear to meet the predators.

Swamp was not always the same. Mostly it looked like a flat snowy plain with few trees. There was solid crust under the feet. One could step on it without risk of sinking. The crust was just slightly powdered with fresh snow. There were also large areas with no trees at all. In warmer seasons there's probably quite impassable but now it is a pleasure to ski. And those places where one could easily go in the summer have become uncomfortable in the winter. Pines there grew thicker and were larger. The wind managed to pile the snowdrifts and skiing was difficult.

The confluence lays on a fairly open place in a few tens of meters of pine seedlings. The elevation overgrown with real trees is to the north-west. Search of the zeros is short and pleasant! Short photo session and I may move back.
