01-Aug-2004 -- On August 1st, 2004 I left for my eighth confluence: N50 ° - W073 °. Departure from my home (N48 ° 26 ' 07.1", W71 ° 13 ' 42.6"), in the city of Saguenay, at 6:23 am. The confluence is in the North of Girardville, a sector which I know very well.

At 6:40 am, I arrive at Saint Ambroise to have breakfast. At 7:14 am I leave the restaurant. Having by-passed the vast lake Saint John by the North, I arrive finally at Girardville where I fill up gasoline at 8:35 am. That calls back me on the nine years when I worked on the management of the public territory of the sector for the ministry of the Natural resources of Quebec. I often took then the road which I get ready to take.

At 9:16 am, I am 40 km of Girardville, km 30 of the road L-206 (in gravel). In this place the road overhangs the river Mistassini, a river easy to row. At 9:41 am I arrive at the connection of roads L-206 (km 61) and L-236 (km 0). I am in coordinates N49 ° 37 ' 13.2", W72 ° 41 ' 31.6", in 47,7 km of the confluence.

10:15 am: having rolled 38 other kilometres on the forest road L-236, I arrive at the beginning of the sector "J". The region was divided into "sectors" by the forest company which exploits the wood of the place. I am not more than in 15,9 km of my objective, in coordinates: N49 ° 51 ' 40.9", W72° 57' 00.7".

A dozen kilometres farther, I have to take another road (less passable). Coordinates: N49 ° 58 ' 43.6", W72 ° 56 ' 05.4" in 5,23 km of the confluence. The weather is more cloudy but I do not believe that it rains.

At 10:53 am I have to abandon the car in 1,91 km of my goal. I take my mountain bike which so often served me in the history of my searches for confluences. I get closer of as well near as I can it, up to 60 metres of the confluence. I continue in let us try by keeping my GPS opened because I forgot my compass in the car.

I am in a forest cutting about 5 years. While I wait that my GPS indicates its magic zeros, I contemplate the surroundings down from an stump, in a small swamp. My glance is then enticed by pink ribbons on the ground, in some steps of me.

Ribbons surround a cartridge of 35 mm film with, inside, a pin of " Ducks Unlimited ". It is about a present left by confluence hunters which, last year, in tried to reach the confluence. Regrettably, their photos were not rather good so that their visit is successful.

At 11:37 am I can finally take my GPS in photo. I put some orange ribbons to mark well the ground and still takes some photos. Then I leave towards my car which I reach at 12:04 am. I get some sandwiches and leave towards Girardville whom I reach at 1:45 pm.

Before returning at home, I take advantage of it to go through a new section of "La Véloroute des Bleuets", bike route which encircles the lake Saint John on 256 km. At 5:30 pm I am at home after a visit of rather easy confluence.
