31-Jul-2001 -- As a first experience in finding a point of confluence, we had planned to visit point 49N-67W while visiting some friends of ours that moved in "Les Méchins" a short while ago.

Once we got there, we explained the project to both our friends and they also decided to join in. Me, my wife Hélène, our kids (Rémi and Sandrine 5 and 3 years of age) and our friends drove to the shore in a 4X4 Jeep after getting permission from a resident to circulate on his private property. The point of confluence turned out to be in the water at about 500 meters from the shore.

So we all proceeded to a wharf to find someone with a small boat to take us to our confluence. Fishing was so good that day, nobody was available to help us! So we went back to Jean and Céline's house to get their canoe. Unfortunately this option would not allow us to all participate. It was decided that only Jean and myself would go.

Once the canoe was secured on the Jeep, Maurice, another friend just came by. Once again we told him about our project and he also wanted to join the expedition. We then returned to the shore as close as possible of our point of confluence and launched the canoe. Luckily, there was no wind that day; sometimes, 2 meter-high waves are present in that area (that would have been mission impossible). Then I sat in the middle of the canoe, Maurice at the front and Jean at the rear. Maurice and Jean rowed, while following the directions that I was getting from my Garmin eTrex Legend GPS. Once we reached the point of confluence, we took pictures. Finally, we got back to Jean's house and joined up our wives and kids. We truly enjoyed our experience.

Thanks to all of those who helped me carry out this project.
