13-Aug-2017 -- While on a long drive from Boise, Idaho to Whitefish, Montana, I was looking forward to visiting this Degree Confluence Point enroute. This is a ‘forgotten’ Degree Confluence Point - visited just once before, by Matt Goff in January 2001. Furthermore, Matt’s visit was during the winter, when the area was covered with snow, and didn’t include many photos of the confluence point itself - so this felt almost like a first visit.

From the town of Grangeville, I detoured onto a series of country roads, ending up on Lukes Gulch Road, which eventually makes a dogleg turn just 0.5 miles northwest of the point. I parked here and walked across a farm field, which ended - at a steep, rock-strewn bank - 0.13 miles from the point. After scrambling down the bank, I found myself on an old road cut that took me just 150 feet from the point, which lies on a slight slope, about 300 feet below my starting point.

The point lies on the northern bank of Butcher Creek, which runs north-eastward into the (South Fork of the) Clearwater River, two miles away. According to my map, the point itself lies just outside the Nez Perce Indian Reservation, but (at least part of) the farmland above the bank lies within the reservation.

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
