01-Mar-2005 -- This is the story of a point and a journey. The journey is from Ulaanbaatar (UB) in Mongolia to Kirriemuir in Scotland, covering 110 degrees of longitude and visiting 15 CPs on the way. The story starts at 47°N 105°E. This is CP 5. The previous point is 46°N 100°E.
Having camped just 25km from the point we left the road to cover the last 20km across country. There was a small frozen river and then very few traces of mankind except the occasional motorbike track. The driving was quite easy although there were a lot of small rocks. The area seemed to be mostly volcanic.
Before leaving UB Marcus Dubach gave me a CD of a music festival of music from Kyrgyz, Mongolia and Switzerland. This contains an extraordinary mixture of yodelling and throat singing. It is very jolly and became our signature tune when approaching key moments such as CPs. Thank you Marcus.
Erka parked on the button again so the GPS photos were taken on the roof of the car!
Here is the only picture with Sylvia in it - she vetoed all the others - make the most of it. On to 46°N 98°E
