26-Aug-2008 --

We went to Slovenia for 10 days to help with the restoration of a small village house that a friend bought near to Tolmin and to do some paragliding in the area. When I told some friends about the confluence project and all the adventure I had experienced discovering some virgin points in Venezuela and Peru, I persuaded John and Tessa to come along the next day.

We left on a sunny morning around 10 from Lubljin direction Idrija. According to the map it looked an easy approach but probably wouldn’t be the case because the 2 prior visits weren’t able to pin it down and they could only get to 250m range. We were planning to change that and put this Slovenian point in our name. Apparently the confluence was near to a small dirt road climbing up the valley from Idrija. We parked our rental at a local farmhouse and set in the direction the GPS was pointing at. We were at 1,8 km away in a straight line but 1,8 km in mountainous terrain isn’t the same as a walk on the beach so it took us quite a bit of alphorn-prairie crossing, cross country tree hopping and Slovenian cow-running to get at 150m range. In the meanwhile we actually climbed a complete hill and were running down again when we met up with another dirt track, it meant we could actually get a lot closer by car. But that didn’t really matter because the goal was near. From that track we just had to find an easy and secure way down the steep forest slope and get the victory picture to send home. And after a little bit of GPS hoovering we finally got it. VICTORY !!!!!!

A special thanks to Damien and Maite for the opportunity they offered us and all the friends to work, glide, climb and enjoy this beautiful place in Slovenia.

Tessa, John and Christoph
