28-May-2001 -- This confluence is on Bull Mountain in the Deer Lodge National Forest north of Whitehall, Montana. Use the Southwest Montana Interagency Visitor/Travel Map, East Half, for information about land ownership and road access. With high clearance 4WD you can drive to within two miles of the confluence. Park at waypoint 2, 46d00.185N 112d02.207W. Without 4WD, but with some courage you can get as far as waypoint 1, 46d02.795N 112d00.659W, and walk the remaining 4.5 miles to the confluence. The confluence is at about 6900' AMSL; one good approach is to hike the abandoned road east from waypoint 2 until you get to that elevation and then leave the road to follow the contour around the hill to the confluence.

Sophie and I enjoyed the approach. The trail from Swampy Park south follows a ridgeline between Wilson Park and the Whitetail Valley. On a good day, this is a beautifully scenic area! And we had a GREAT day!

I planted a geocache at this confluence. Visitors please sign in.
