English narrative

17-Aug-2005 -- From August 12 to August 30th, 2005, we did an automobile race on the Russian-Ukrainian roads during which we visited the following points: 49N040E, 45N036E, 45N034E, 46N034E, 51N037E, 52N036E, 54N037E, 54N038E, 56N041E, 56N052E, 57N053.

The point 45N036E was our first point on the Ukrainian ground. To it we also have directed, having left the ferry which has delivered us in the city of Kerch from peninsula Tamanskogo where we have finished the Russian part of studying the Black Sea coast, consistently having visited all of the little interesting places from Adler up to Anapa.

In the sight of those who get to Ukraine this way is a rather depressing spectacle, which used to be in practically all of the Soviet Union – a sad monotony appears of dim dusty streets where antique ruins are almost indistinguishable from 20th century structures. Having left the city, we direct West toward Feodosiya. The landscape does not please with variety. On both sides of the road last слабовсхолмленные the flat spaces more likely reminding to steppe or even savanna. The arrow of the navigator draws us aside from the main highway and forces us to move down on a local road, leading along the sea. Preparing for visiting, we saw, certainly, that the point is on the water, but continued to hope on "perhaps", yes for Russian ingenuity, look, yes, we would think of something!

The new roadsite has met us without kind feelings. And if the main Crimean highway connecting Kerch with Simferopol, still is somehow supported in a suitable condition to travel, here the asphalt was not under repair, probably it never was even paved for its full 50 kilometer extent, probably it still stores traces of shellings from the times of the Crimean war.

But the basic surprise waited for us ahead when, having overcome, at last, all front-line kilometers, and when the device showed that to the point remains all of about four kilometers, we have suddenly seen ahead a checkpoint, a barrier, a gate with Russian flags and in both directions – regular rows of barbed wire as far as we can see… Hello, relatives, – our own naval base has even settled down here, and we already have become bored!! But, though we are also compatriots, and the gate has not been raised, it is good that they at least allowed us to photograph ourselves…

It became clear, that we would not visit the point, and "perhaps" will not help. The only thing else that remains is to go along the fence aside the seas, yes to photograph even in the direction of the point. As it has been done!
