21-Aug-2010 -- This is the first attempt to visit a confluence point with our new equipment: garmin oregon 300 + APRS system. Though we have a long way to go today, but we decided to try. During our driving, we connect to 3G network and investigate the map around, and found it's only 10km from the Tianshan town.

Oregon found a way for us, and it worth to have a try, and test if the map is fine. In the map their is a small village nearby. But nobody know the name of the village, it seems the map is wrong again.

We run 3-4km along the old way on our map, and found we are a little far from the point. Can't describe where we are heading on, local people very curious about us: are you mine hunter?

Across a small river, then a small hill, it’s only 1km to the point. Nelson is fighting on his way too. There are new planted bushes on the hill, I believe they are subsidized by government to resist wind and sand. Luckily, our jeep can run between two lines of bushes without destroy them.

After climbing up two or three hill, on the top of a hill, we found the point is 500 meter away. And a small village appears: the one that nobody knows the name. The bushes prevent us from going further, I decided to drive down to the dirt road, the road from the village to the town.

There are only 200 meters from the road, it takes me less then 10 minutes to reach it. Nelson is coming soon, and run to the hill, 50 meters from the CP, stopped by the bushes.

This is a very successful APRS test. We can drive as we like, select our trail freely, and find other team members on GPS. Forget lost on the road, it’s an history.
