OTHER NEW HUNTER AND THE VISIT TO HURON LAKE

One of my colleagues was very curious regarding to catch confluences. Edgar never had been during past weekends of hunting and this Sunday was perfect to introduce him into the activity. Besides we were interested to know other of the Great Lakes, the Huron and then we joined the two activities looking for the confluence 44°N 81°W in this area. This time the team was integrated for Raul, Edgar and me.

This confluence is inside a private property and we read in the narrative of some previous visitor, the name of the owner: Franz Barmet, a Swiss man who we should find to ask for the permission.

We drove by some rural paved roads to the northwest from Guelph and after 80 kilometers we quickly reached the land where the confluence laid, in Huron County.

We found on the road the Post Mailbox of the Family Barmet that confirmed the information that we had. Then we went into the property for asking permission but except a dog, there was nobody there. It was noon and we decide to go for lunch and to return later. The distance to the confluence was 290 meters and we wanted to achieve a successful visit.

We had lunch in a picturesque restaurant named “Redwood” at the intersection of Roads 1 and 9, near the town of Clifford and then we went to the confluence again.

Now, we had better luck, because Franz Barmet appeared and gave us the OK for reaching the point because he knew the project and understood our intentions. Probably now he was surprised by three Argentinean people there looking for confluences. The world is small: a Swiss and three Argentinean joined in a lost point of Canadá, .

We walked into a field seeded with beams (instead of the cornfield showed in the previous visit at 2003) and we easily achieved all zeros for minutes and seconds in the GPS, previous typical Confluence Dance. Franz’s dog shared with us the moment of the conquest and it was witness of Edgar’s baptism as Confluence Hunter.

I took the obligatory pictures and then we returned to the farmhouse to thank Franz for allowing entering in his land for reaching our successful visit.

After the accomplished mission for the confluence, we went to look for the Huron Lake to the southwest. After around 60 km we arrived to Goderich City and we could reach the coastline of the lake through the harbour, parking practically on the beautiful beaches of sand. Huron Lake is a very big lake and it seems a sea.

We were happy with our trip and previous coffee in the typical “Tim Hortons” we started to return to Guelph through a lot of quiet towns of rural Ontario.
