#1: Facing south

(visited by Targ Parsons, Peter Cao and Andy Parsons)

30-Jun-2014 -- Story continues from 42°N 124°E.

We stopped at an expressway service area for lunch, and also to get the radiator looked at. The mechanic replaced the plastic twine holding up the radiator with some wire. No charge.

We left the expressway at Chāngtú County (昌图县), then followed a road north for about 25 kilometres. Along the way, we saw many large wind turbines, all stationery in the absence of any appreciable wind. Later we encountered several semitrailers parked on the side of the road, each carrying one huge blade for a wind turbine.

This was a very easy confluence, given that it had never been visited before. We parked on the side of a track between the cornfields. I set off down the track on foot, while Peter stopped to take a call from his wife, Xiaorong. Andy also chatted with Xiaorong. I thought they would follow me along the track to another track leading off to the left, which I knew would take us to within 50 metres of the confluence. But instead, once finished on the phone, they decided to make a beeline for the point, entailing a 200-metre traipse through the tall corn.

We met up at the confluence, where we took the GPS photo and photos to the north, south, east and west. Peter helped with the selfie. I showed them the easy way out. Andy was very happy, and skipped his way back to the car.

Story continues at 42°N 123°E.
