#1: The Confluence from 15 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz)

12-Mar-2018 -- This is the third out of 4 reports reaching confluence points during a 4-day cycling trip from Lisbon to Seville. The story starts at 38°N 8°W and continuous from 38°N 7°W.

On confluence day, I started cycling from Aracena in 50 km distance (as the crows fly). After several days of storms with heavy rains, it was finally sunny, but the temperature only 6°C.

At noon time I reached the confluence area. I left the main road SE-177 at the last little town named El Real de la Jara, continued on the tiny but sealed county road Carretera Hoya de Santa Maria. At 5 kilometers from the confluence I turned southwards on the unsealed road “Camino Cordel de Cazalla O de los Viateros” in southern direction up to a distance of exactly 200 m. I just parked my bicycle at the road and walked across a field with scattered cork oaks to the confluence.

The confluence point is located near a little creek. The ground is covered by a lawn that is continuously mown by cows. Nearby I saw lazy pigs sleeping in the sun.

There wasn’t enough time to visit the confluence point 38°N 5°W further to the east by bicycle, so didn’t continue eastwards, but started cycling southwards to Seville from where I had my flight scheduled on the following day in the afternoon.

CP Visit Details:

  • Distance of bicycle parking: 200 m
  • Time to reach the CP from the road: 2 minutes
  • Time at the CP: 1:17 PM

  • Weather: mostly sunny, 10° C (felt temperature)

The story finishes at 38°N 5°W.
