  37°N 23°E (visit #3)

#1: #01_location of CP 37N-23E view 97 m from west

(visited by Thomas Barthel)

27-Jul-2022 -- During our summer holidays in Greece I took the chance to visit two confluence points at the Peloponnese Peninsula. The second one was 37° North 23° East.

The way to the closer location of the CP 37N-23E was a long one, caused by the geological conditions. It was a very curvy trip with steep up- and down-hills! But on the way we had a lot of very impressive views into deep valleys, passed Sparta, drove under overhangs, saw goats direct on the road. After the very great journey towards the CP we had a fabulous view to the coast line of the Omos Kyparissioy bay, located short before the closer location of the CP area. The scenic and typical Greek village of Kyparissi gave us the chance to prepare the visit and to have a nice cold drink at the harbour of the village. Now the final part of the trip started to the still 3.3 km beeline distant CP. As a big different to the last visit I could experience that the road is paved now and in a very good condition. So I parked the car direct at the exit down to the little olive- and carob tree plantation, which has the CP location at its bottom, very close to the coast line - regarding the maps. Soon it was an old destroyed gate visible and quite fresh tracks of a pick-up car. Some meters on we saw a net on the ground, put out directly under a carob tree. The farmer is harvesting carob tree fruits in this way. After passing an old ruin and walking twelve serpentines with 100 meters difference in altitude the way ends. At luck the CP 37N-23E is located directly at the sea side end of the track, underneath an olive and a carob tree. Although the shadow of the trees it was very hot! The crystal clear water was only around 20 m more downwards. But no wind at all. The temperature in the car was shown with 42 °C. After a break at the beach of Kyparissi/ Paralia we started the trip back.

By chance this CP is located directly on a dirt track and so to reach very easily. Only the heat was hard - but this is Greece in the summer!
