05-Apr-2024 -- After (thankfully) leaving Midland, Texas, I drove Northeast, leaving the I-20 freeway at the town of Big Spring. I was eager to visit this ‘forgotten’ Degree Confluence Point, visited just once (by the Vinsons) in 1999, more than 24 years ago. Continuing Northeast and then North, I was pleased to see a respite from the petroleum industry, as I passed several wind turbines, and a photovoltaic energy field. And then, just South of the point, I saw hills for the first time in two days (small, sandy hills - but hills nonetheless). After turning Westward onto country road 342 (dirt), I passed just 0.25 miles South of the point. I parked there, crossed a barbed-wire fence, and hiked the rest of the way, across grassy farmland, filled with thinly-spaced, almost-dead-looking trees.

The point lies in a clearing, away from the trees. The area looks quite different from the photos from the Vinsons’ 1999 visit. (Their report didn’t include a GPS photo, so I’m not convinced that they reached the actual point.)

Unfortunately, like my visit to [32,-102] earlier in the day, it was very windy during my visit, and I didn’t feel it was safe to launch my drone to get an aerial view.
