  33°N 116°E (visit #1)

#1: General and South view

(visited by Yip-Bannicq Group, Xiaoyu Wei, Feng Jiang, Ghuju Yang, Aiewen Liu, Yuimen Shen and Ray Yip)

15-Jul-2004 -- 33N – 116 E Anhui(安徽), China

Visit Date: July 15, 2004

This is the third line-hunting trip in the Anhui province of the Yip-Bannicq group (Ray) together with friends from the GAP (Ms. Wei Xiaoyu, and Ms. Jiang Feng), Mr. Yang Huijun of China CDC, and Ms. Shen Yuimen and Mr. Liu Aiewei of Anhui CDC.

The same group visited 33°N 117°E two days earlier while en route to Lixin county, and this particular line hunting was on our way from Lixin to Linquan county. Similar to the first CP of this trip, this particular one located not too far from the main highway (National 305).

After concluded all our site visit activities at Linxin county we departed near 5.30 pm, and by 6 pm we found the dirt round off highway 305 leading toward the CP. After 3 km and two turns we parked in the middle of Wa-Fang village, and about 250 meters away from the object of our hunt.

33N-116E located in the middle of a field with newly planted corn and soy beans. The nearby villagers who still attending field had this puzzling look when 6 city folks marched into the middle of their field and started taking pictures.

Because it was getting late, and we still have over 100 km to go, so we did not spend much time in the village except to take a couple pictures of the friendly children.

We reached our destination in the dark, and for the first- and second-time line hunters of the group, they were happy it was a short hike on dry path – unlike the first hunt which required some struggle in very muddy path.

Rating of this hunt:

Degree of Challenge: 1 – almost drive to the point (Scale: 1= very easy - drive to the point; to 5= a death march – glad it is over)

Scenery: 2– typical rural farming area of central China, nothing very remarkable (Scale: 1= not interesting at all; 5= take your breath away)

Culture-social factors: 2– rural northern Anhui setting (Scale: 1=dull; 5= most stimulating)
