#1: The confluence point lies within a boring piece of forest

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

30-Oct-2012 -- This visit was a bit of a surprise to me. This confluence point had been visited just once before, 11 years ago, and - at that time - the visitors described clear cut land. However, recent satellite imagery showed that since then, trees have been planted, growing in (what looked like) neat rows. Visiting this point should be straightfoward - or so I thought.

Indeed, the point was quite easy to visit - but not as easy as I had thought. A dirt (really, sand) road passes just 0.12 miles south of the point. I parked at a turnout (at a gate directly to the south), and hiked towards the point.

However, rather than 'trees growing in neat rows', what I found was a rather nondescript forest, filled with spindly trees, and lots of thorny vines. Scrambling through the forest to get to the confluence point was difficult at times. The confluence point is completely unremarkable, and looks the same in all directions.
