09-Jun-2007 -- The morning on the seismic crew started off with a strong hot southerly wind, known locally as Gibli. Sand was being picked up by the wind and the signs indicated that a sand storm was the order of the day and we might have to abandon our trip to reach DCP 29N 24E.

We needed to introduce the art of DCP's to a new friend from Norway, Espen Erlandsen, a.k.a The Professor, as Kerry rightly calls Espen due to his extensive background in seismic data acquisition and his love for the outdoors.

The party set off at around 07:00 hrs from base camp and after completing our visit to the recording crew conducting a seismic program in the area, we departed to locate the point approximately 35 km south of our location.

The wind seemed to die down to make this trip safe enough to traverse some impressive sand dunes, with Kerry screaming and holding on for dear life, as our capable driver Muḥammad drove impeccably down sand dunes to reach the point found in a flat sand gravel plain.

The temperature was close to 45° Celsius by mid day which is when we arrived at the location. It was definitely a bonus that the vehicles had air conditioning. The terrain around the immediate vicinity is rather featureless, however, dunes can be seen in the background.

Congratulations, Espen, and welcome to the art of DCP's.
