04-Dec-2004 -- As we had earlier done this confluence long time back in August 2002, we thought of taking the idea of confluence to the schools kids and hence our project “Khoj” was born. In this project, school students from India are going to visit various confluence points in India and then finally to find an inhabited place on Meriden 82.5 degrees whose time we use as Indian Standard time. Students from various schools in Delhi are being trained to find places of confluence with help of maps and GPS and then finally match the longitude and latitude readings by doing simple experiments with Gnomon.

The first ever point taken up by students from Appejay School, sheikh sarai, Balbharti Public school, pusa road, Ryan International noida, Ryan International Vasant kunj, Sanskriti school, St. Mary’s school, safdarjang enclave, K R Manglam School, Greater Kailash, St. Coulmba’s school, Harvard Academy and Modern school barakhamba road had 25 students .

After bus journey of around 2 hours starting from Dharuhera in Haryana, we went through rewari, narnaul in Haryana and finally reached a point around 4 kms to the confluence and divided them into 2 groups and both the teams took different routes to reach the confluence. It took them around 2 hours to reach the point walking through the farms and small hillocks. There they did the local noon experiment which confirmed the 76 degrees longitude. Of course the GPS was there and they all did the confluence dance. They interacted with the locals over there and then started their journey back to the place where they had stayed overnight
