(visited by John Bevan)

22-Jan-2004 -- Well this was really a trip into the unknown, interesting though because it is situated in one of the Arabian lava fields "Ḥarrat Khaybar". I was aware of a track heading north then west of al-Ḥāyit. I planned to head west until I intersected with 40E, then head down towards 26N. Luckily the track west was like a two lane dirt track, eventually leading to a settlement close to the 40E. Subsequently I learnt it was called al-Šuwaymis, famous for its petroglyphs.

From here I took single lane vehicle tracks into the desert and volcanic rock fields. Eventually I got to a point that was 8.5 km away from the target. From this point I decided to walk which made it a bit more challenging, especially walking over loose volcanic rubble ideal for strengthening the ankles. The location is interesting because a cinder cone is north of the point. I also found other vehicle tracks within about 2 km of this Confluence close to the cone, a great camping site!
