#1: Our very fuzzy photo of the mountains to the East of the Confluence (sorry)

(visited by Stephen Franks, Josh Cocker, Marc Lamontagne and Khalid al-Shahab)

20-Dec-2002 -- After successfully locating confluences 27N 36E and 28N 36E, we headed back south toward Yanbu`. We had wanted to try for confluence 26N 37E as well, but time was running short. We decided that we would have to forego the last Confluence, since it appeared that although it was near a highway, it was likely to be in the mountains we could see to the east, and, therefore, difficult to access. At the last minute, however, we decided to take a quick look, so we turned on the paved highway going east toward the mountains, watching our GPS and hoping we’d reach the point before reaching the mountains.

As it turned out, the Confluence was in a large flat plain surfaced with coarse-packed sand and pea gravel that made driving to it very easy. It turned out to be the easiest Confluence of all! The mountains to the East made a beautiful setting, but unfortunately a camera malfunction resulted in rather fuzzy photographs for which we apologize!
